On June 18, 2024, Taiwanese fishermen spotted a suspected Chinese nuclear submarine near the median line of the Taiwan Strait, while Japan's Defense Ministry announced the latest movements of Chinese naval vessels on June 17. Two Chinese warships were observed passing through the Okinawa waters on the 16th, sailing towards the Pacific Ocean. The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force dispatched patrol ships and anti-submarine aircraft for monitoring and surveillance. The Chinese warships included the 052D destroyer Zibo and the 903A supply ship Gaoyouhu. Zibo, the 14th 052D destroyer of the PLA Navy, commenced service in January 2020 with a displacement of 7500 tons, while Gaoyouhu, a 23000-ton supply ship, entered service in January 2016.
