Japan's $550 Billion Trade Deal May Fund Taiwanese Chip Manufacturers in the U.S.

Reported 1 day ago

Japan's trade negotiator revealed that a $550 billion investment package, part of a U.S. tariff agreement, could finance Taiwanese semiconductor firms establishing plants in the U.S. The initiative, designed to enhance supply chain security, isn't limited to U.S. or Japanese companies, allowing for investments in firms like TSMC that utilize Japanese components. While equity investments will be minimal, the bulk will come from loans and guarantees, with Japan planning to deploy these funds during Trump's current term.
