Advantest in Japan stated that the increasing demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM) for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks is enhancing its memory tester business. HBM, a high-performance memory type with stacked chips to save space and reduce power consumption, is crucial when processing AI's large data volumes. Advantest's CEO mentioned that HBM constitutes about 50% of their memory testing business and this trend is expected to continue. The company's focus on HBM since 2013, collaboration with memory manufacturers, and anticipation of 47% growth in annual sales for the memory sector highlight its strategic positioning in this market driven by AI and chip performance improvements, especially through edge AI applications.
