Japan's birth rate has decreased for eight consecutive years, reaching a historic low of 1.2% in 2023. In response, the Japanese government has introduced new laws to enhance childcare policies, with the Tokyo government offering subsidies of up to 200,000 yen (approximately 40,000 TWD) for egg freezing for women under 39, as well as launching dating apps in an attempt to tackle the declining birth rate. The challenges of high inflation and soaring prices may pose obstacles to marriage and childcare despite efforts to boost the birth rate.
