Japan's Factory Activity Eases in June as Costs Rise, PMI Shows

Reported over 1 year ago

Japan's factory activity expanded for a second straight month in June, with the au Jibun Bank flash Japan manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) slightly down to 50.1 from 50.4 in May. However, new orders dipped, cost pressures intensified, and the service sector saw its first decline in about two years. Despite this, manufacturers' optimism rose for the next 12 months, and the Bank of Japan decided to begin trimming bond purchases, signaling a step towards unwinding its monetary stimulus.
