Japan's Tourism Agency revealed that the number of international tourists visiting Japan in May amounted to 3.04 million, continuing the trend of exceeding 3 million for the third consecutive month. Due to the weakened yen and increased arrivals, Japan's tourism industry has seen significant growth, with an increase of 60% in international visitors compared to the same period last year. Taiwan ranked third on the list with a 53.6% increase in tourists compared to 2019, following South Korea and China. The surge in tourists has also raised concerns about 'overtourism' in Japan, with measures such as potential price hikes for foreign visitors being considered in certain areas like Himeji Castle.
