Japan's May Exports Up for Sixth Consecutive Month

Reported 8 months ago

Japan's Ministry of Finance announced on June 19, 2024, that exports in May increased by 13.5% year-on-year to 8.2 trillion yen (approximately $510 billion), marking the sixth consecutive monthly growth and the highest increase since November 2022. The surge was mainly driven by strong demand for automobiles and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The trade deficit for May reached 1.22 trillion yen (about $77 billion), down nearly 12% from the same period last year, with imports rising by 9.5% to 9.4 trillion yen.
