Japanese Defense Minister Toshimitsu Motegi confirmed that all 7 missing crew members from the April 20 collision between two Maritime Self-Defense Force patrol helicopters have been deemed deceased, bringing the total death toll to 8. The search, which has been ongoing for over two months, has not yielded any survivors. Despite efforts to explore the sea floor, the deep waters exceeding 5000 meters in the area have made the search challenging. The incident, involving SH-60K Sea Hawk helicopters, occurred during an anti-submarine training mission near the Izu Islands.
