To prevent 'tourism pollution' and overcrowding on Mount Fuji, Japan's Yamanashi Prefecture will implement traffic control starting this summer. Gates measuring 1.8 meters in height and 8 meters in length will be installed on the 5th station of the Yoshida trail on Mount Fuji. Once completed on the 17th, the gates are set to be activated from the early hours of July 1 when the mountain opens for climbing. The gates will be closed between 4 p.m. and 3 a.m. each day to prevent night climbing or 'bulleting climbing,' with closures occurring if daily visitors reach 4,000 people. The gates will be managed by security personnel 24 hours a day, with climbers required to pay a passage fee of 2,000 yen, undergo accommodation verification, and receive a wristband pass before passing through.
