With the depreciation of the Japanese yen, Japan saw over 3 million foreign tourists in May for the third consecutive month, with Taiwanese tourists increasing by over 50% compared to the previous year and exceeding 400,000, reaching a new high in the same period. Despite the increased cost during Japan's peak travel season, Taiwanese visitors continued to surge due to additional flights from Taiwan to various destinations in Japan. Japanese authorities expect the total number of tourists in 2021 to surpass the record high of 31.88 million set in 2019, if the current growth trend continues.
