On June 9, 2024, 24-year-old Japanese man Kei Matsukimura successfully completed the challenge of solo sailing around the world without stopping at ports or receiving supplies, setting a new record as the youngest person from Japan to do so. Despite suffering from sunburn and losing 12 kilograms during the journey, Matsukimura expressed that anxiety and loneliness were his biggest enemies throughout the entire voyage. The feat was celebrated at a homecoming ceremony in Nishinomiya, where Matsukimura shared the difficulties he faced to ensure sleep and the impact of overthinking on his mindset during the journey.
