On July 4, 2024, at 1:23 am, during a training exercise over the Shikoku Sea, a part of the simulator used during a simulated combat dropped into the sea from an F-15 fighter jet of the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force's Niigatahara Base. The part, mainly made of aluminum and stainless steel, was discovered post-training and is estimated to have fallen into the sea. Fortunately, the simulator part did not contain any explosive material and no human damages have been reported. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
