Japanese Alert! Deadly 'Flesh-Eating Bacteria' Outbreak Hits 977 Cases, Health Agency Speaks Out

Reported about 1 year ago

A severe outbreak of 'Streptococcus pyogenes' infection, commonly known as Flesh-Eating Bacteria, in Japan has resulted in over 977 cases of Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome (STSS) from the beginning of this year. The number of cases has surpassed last year's 941 cases, reaching 2.8 times more than the same period last year. Although there is no specific 'flesh-eating bacteria' outbreak in Taiwan, the Centers for Disease Control reassures the public. Symptoms of the infection include sudden high fever, limb swelling, pain, and the possibility of multiple organ failure leading to shock within hours. The infection can be particularly dangerous for the elderly, diabetes patients, and others with weakened immune systems.
