At the RIMPAC military exercise on July 4, 2024, TVBS boarded the Japanese amphibious transport ship KUNISAKI, experiencing the flight deck elevator that only takes 30 seconds for transportation. This marked Japan's 23rd participation in RIMPAC, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening the US-Japan alliance. The ship can carry up to 8 UH-60J or SH-60J helicopters and also accommodates 18 Type 90 tanks and amphibious vehicles. The vessel has been involved in disaster relief operations and joint exercises with the US Marine Corps, highlighting its capabilities in both amphibious landing and humanitarian missions.
