Japanese Authorities Detain Keelung Fishing Vessel Captain and Engineer, Require Payment of 1.21 Million NT Fine for Release

In the early morning of July 5, 2024, the Keelung fishing vessel 'Fuyang No. 266', operating in the northeast of Pengjia Islet in the open sea, was inspected by Japanese patrol vessels, leading to the detention of the captain and engineer. Japanese authorities have agreed to a fine of 6.6 million Japanese yen (approximately 1.21 million NT dollars) for their release. The vessel must pay this amount, which will be deposited into an account in Fukuoka, before being allowed to return to Taiwan.
