Japanese Car Manufacturers Under Investigation for Certification Violations

Reported 11 months ago

Following Toyota and Honda, Mazda is now also being investigated by the Japanese government for certification violations related to 'type designation,' necessary for mass production of automobiles. As of June 10th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism conducted inspections at Honda's headquarters in Tokyo in the morning and began an investigation at Mazda's headquarters in Fukuchiyama-cho, Hiroshima Prefecture in the afternoon. Issues involve violations in performance testing of cars and motorcycles, with all five companies—Toyota, Mazda, Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki—having undergone inspections. Violations included false data on noise tests and horsepower tests, leading to production halts and penalties. The investigations aimed to verify test data and internal rules on type designation while questioning company executives.
