Keith George, an American student at Oxford University in 1983, was lucky to have the future Japanese Emperor Naruhito as his neighbor, then Crown Prince. They quickly became close friends, with the Emperor even joining George's bluegrass band. Over 40 years later, Emperor Naruhito visited the UK and revisited places from their student days. Despite his royal status, they maintained a genuine friendship based on personal connection. George fondly remembers the lasting and unexpected bond, hoping their daughters can continue the friendship to the next generation, stating, 'I can say, the Japanese Emperor is my true friend.'
