Japanese Emperor's Visit to England: King Charles Welcomes with Enthusiastic State Banquet and Talks about Pokémon

Reported 9 months ago

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan visited England for a 3-day state visit, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla warmly welcomed them with a traditional carriage ride to Buckingham Palace. During the state banquet, King Charles praised Japan's cultural contributions and made a Pokémon joke by exclaiming 'Kanpai' in Japanese. The royal visit, initially planned for 2020 but delayed due to the pandemic, marked Japan's first state visit to England since 1998, featuring visits to Westminster Abbey, a top biomedical research facility, and the Thames Barrier. The banquet attended by about 150 guests included royal members, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Labour leader Keri Starmer, with a menu of dishes such as poached Scottish langoustines, creamed potatoes, spinach croquettes, pea and quail egg salad, and more.
