Due to high temperatures, this year's cherry harvest in Yamagata Prefecture has significantly decreased, with over 70,000 cherry gifts unable to be delivered as part of tax return gifts. Across multiple regions in Japan, temperatures near 40°C have been recorded, impacting agricultural crops. The high heat has caused cherries to ripen too quickly, leading to a sharp decline in harvest yield. The heatwave has also resulted in skyrocketing cherry prices in markets, affecting local economies. Yamagata Prefecture authorities are planning to provide support to farmers affected by the heatwave.
