According to the Nikkei newspaper, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications released the 2024 edition of the 'Information and Communication White Paper' on July 6, 2024. The report indicated that only 9.1% of people in Japan use generative artificial intelligence (AI), significantly lower than China (56.3%), the US (46.3%), UK (39.8%), and Germany (34.6%). Reasons for not using generative AI included lack of understanding of usage methods, with over 40% of respondents, and the perception that it is not essential to daily life, with nearly 40% as well. The paper also addressed the potential impact of generative AI on society and industries, with concerns about security risks and copyright infringement. Japan lagged behind in actively planning for generative AI adoption compared to China, the US, and Germany.
