Besides the surge in hand, foot, and mouth disease cases among children in Japan, there has also been an outbreak of the deadly 'Killer Flesh-Eating Bacteria' epidemic, with nearly 1,000 people contracting Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome (STSS) within five months. Experts suggest that the outbreak of the flesh-eating bacteria may be related to the weakened immunity of the population due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The strain known as 'Type A Streptococcus,' which is commonly transmitted through droplets and contact, has led to severe symptoms and a high fatality rate of 10% to 40% in infected individuals.
