Japanese Police Find 3 Dead Bodies at Mt. Fuji Crater, Urge Self-Restraint During Closure Period

Reported about 1 year ago

On June 26, 2024, police in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, discovered 3 climbers lying near the crater at the peak of Mt. Fuji, confirming all were deceased, including a 53-year-old man from Tokyo who went missing after heading to Mt. Fuji on June 21. The man's wife alerted police after he sent photos from the summit but then went silent. Authorities found 3 individuals in cardiac arrest near the crater on June 26, with all confirmed dead. As Mt. Fuji's climbing season is usually from July to September annually, police urge climbers to refrain from attempting climbs. Additionally, a convenience store in Fujikawaguchiko Town in Yamanashi Prefecture, popular for its view of Mt. Fuji on the roof, has experienced inappropriate behavior from tourists taking photos, prompting measures such as installing curtains to deter gatherings and requesting travel agencies not to bring tourists nearby.
