Japanese service activity declined in June for the first time in almost two years, according to a PMI survey. The final au Jibun Bank Service PMI fell to 49.4 from 53.8 in May, marking a halt in 21 months of expansion. While the decline in new business signals a temporary growth pause, sectors like transport and storage saw increases. The weakening yen boosted overseas demand for Japanese services, and despite rising input costs, employment growth and business confidence remained strong.
