A 2-year-old Japanese tapir named 'Hideo' from Yokohama Zoo arrived in Taiwan for a bloodline exchange but was found dead in the airport warehouse without any vital signs. Initial autopsy results showed extensive abrasions on the head, pale muscles, subcutaneous bleeding, severe lung edema, and a core temperature of 41 degrees, indicating death due to heatstroke leading to systemic circulatory failure, coagulation dysfunction, and lung edema. The Taipei Zoo expressed regret over the incident and vowed to conduct further investigations with veterinarians and experts.
