Jaydin Blackwell won gold in the T38 100m and 400m at the World Para Track and Field Championships in Kobe, Japan, leading the U.S. to six gold medals and 24 total medals. The 20-year-old from Detroit confirmed his star status, aiming to become the first American to win gold in both events at one Paralympics since 2012. Other notable U.S. performances included Mikey Brannigan's victory in the men's T20 1500m and Roderick Townsend's win in the men's T47 high jump. Athlete Derek Loccident, who lost his left foot in a train accident in 2018, also excelled, winning three total medals in the T64 classification.
