Former Mayor of Taoyuan and Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, Ko Wen-je, was summoned by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office for allegedly receiving a bribe of 5 million NT dollars related to a land scandal in Linkou. The court ruled for him to post bail of 5 million NT dollars and restricted his residence and travel. It was then revealed that the female judge surnamed Deng, who made the ruling, had deep connections with Ko, having served as the Director of the Political Ethics Department during his tenure as the Director of the News Bureau and joining his administration as the Director of the Political Ethics Office once he became Mayor. This raised suspicions, especially since multiple search warrants requested by the prosecution regarding Ko's bribery were denied by the court. Politician Lin Tautou publicly criticized the situation, questioning the judge's impartiality. The prosecution appealed the bail decision, expressing discontent with the ruling. The case received widespread attention, casting doubt on the judiciary's integrity.
