A U.S. district judge has dismissed a challenge by Native American tribes and environmentalists attempting to halt construction along a section of a $10 billion energy transmission line in Arizona that would carry wind-generated electricity to California. The judge ruled that the plaintiffs were too late in bringing their challenge and that the Bureau of Land Management had fulfilled its obligations. The disputed area in southern Arizona holds historic, cultural, and religious significance for the tribes, who may pursue legal avenues, while the project developers see it as a win for the region in terms of jobs and economic development.
