Judge to assess proposed modifications to Google's Android app store in order to curb anticompetitive practices

Reported 5 months ago

A federal judge is considering proposed changes to Google's Android app store to prevent anticompetitive tactics following a previous ruling that found Google had created an illegal monopoly with its Play Store. Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, is pushing for sweeping changes that would require Google to make all Android apps available to competing stores and distribute rival app stores directly to consumers. Google is arguing against these changes, stating they would harm consumers and developers. The judge did not make a ruling during the hearing, but closing arguments are expected in August.
