July Heatwave! Electricity Usage Soars to Record High of 41.18 Million kWh, Taiwan Power's Reserve Capacity Rate Still at 16.86%

According to a report by CTWANT, on July 2, 2024, at 1:52 pm, electricity usage reached 41.18 million kWh, breaking historical records and surpassing earlier predictions, attributed to the summer heatwave increasing electricity demand. Despite the high usage due to scorching weather, with solar power generation also at record levels and recently repaired generators back online, Taiwan Power maintains a reserve capacity rate of 16% during the day and over 7% at night. This peak usage eclipsed the 2022 record and came close to this year's projected peak. The public discusses the stability of the 16.86% reserve capacity rate and the impact of high electricity usage during summer.
