JX Advanced Metals to Reduce Copper Production and Smelting Capacity Amid Margin Pressure

Reported about 13 hours ago

JX Advanced Metals plans to significantly cut its copper production and smelting capacity due to declining margins and increased operating costs. The company aims to reduce output by tens of thousands of metric tons in fiscal 2025 and will develop a roadmap for further capacity reductions by March. This decision comes as Japanese smelters face falling treatment and refining charges, exacerbated by a shortage of concentrate supply and competitive pressures from new smelting capacity in China. JX is also shifting its focus towards securing rare metals for semiconductor production, while continuing to explore strategic projects to bolster its growth.
