Kansas lawmakers are considering a proposal to lure the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals to Kansas by financing new stadiums with state bonds paid off by sports betting, lottery revenues, and new taxes. The plan, linked to broad tax cuts, has been narrowed to cover 70% of the construction costs and make it applicable only to professional football and Major League Baseball stadiums. Supporters believe the revenues generated by the stadiums will offset the costs, despite past economic studies warning against subsidizing sports stadiums.
