Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins and Senate President Ty Masterson proposed letting the Kansas City Chiefs shape a plan to use state bonds for a new stadium in Kansas, aiming to woo the Super Bowl champions. A new Kansas nonprofit group named Scoop and Score also launched efforts to bring the Chiefs to Kansas through an online petition and registering lobbyists. The initiative follows a failed local sales tax vote in Missouri, prompting Kansas officials to propose financing a new stadium using sales and alcohol tax revenues, analogous to financing NASCAR's Kansas Speedway. The goal is to bolster the Chiefs and the state's economy, with a special legislative session set to convene June 18 to discuss the proposal.
