The Internal Administration Committee of the Legislative Yuan held a public hearing on the current status of the Election and Recall Act for Public Officials on July 3, 2024, discussing electoral system deficiencies and directions for amending the Election and Recall Act. Committee Member Kao Chin-soo-mei stated that while the constitution guarantees Indigenous participation rights, improper planning by authorities has led to losses for Indigenous peoples. She highlighted issues such as voting secrecy concerns, the vacancy system for Indigenous legislators, and restrictions on electoral districts that hinder Indigenous candidates, advocating for immediate by-elections for vacancies and calling for a comprehensive review and improvement of the system.
