On June 29, 2024, at 7:30 AM, female inmates at Kaohsiung Women's Prison became agitated after being transferred from northern Taiwan to Kaohsiung, resulting in a pepper spray incident. Following overcrowding at Taipei Women's Detention Center, 35 female inmates were relocated to Kaohsiung on June 19, leading to protests and accusations of male guards using force when their clothing was disheveled. However, the Corrections Department clarified that proper procedures were followed, no indecent exposure occurred, and the incident was contained without further escalation. The Department emphasized humane treatment in correctional facilities and ongoing monitoring of inmate emotions to ensure order and safety.
