The economic boom of concerts in Kaohsiung has led to repeated instances of lodging businesses inflating prices, resulting in fines for violations of up to 150,000 NTD. The Tourism Bureau has been increasing inspections on lodging prices and safety before and after festivals, holidays, concerts, and large events, with penalties including public announcements of names and fines. In 2022, there have been 39 cases of lodging price violations in the industry, with fines totaling 1.51 million NTD. The Bureau encourages the public to report any price gouging they encounter, as violators can face fines ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 NTD under the Tourism Development Act.
