Yahoo News reported on June 10, 2024, that the three-day 2024 Kaohsiung Dragon Boat Festival held an international dragon boat race along Love River, with teams from 15 international cities participating. Mayor Chen Chi-mai led the Kaohsiung City Government team against the Council team and teams from the US and Japan. Japan emerged as the champion, the Council team took second, the City Government team third, and the US team fourth. This event also marked the first time that all four resident offices in Kaohsiung of various countries participated. Mayor Chen expressed determination for a 'revenge' next year.
