Last year, there was a case of a woman in Taipei who died from an infection of the brain-eating worm after swimming, leading to public concern. The recent report about a man in southern Taiwan being invaded by the 'brain-eating worm' and dying from encephalitis was refuted by the Health Bureau, stating that it was a confirmed case of 'amoebic dysentery.'
