Kaohsiung Mayor and People First Party Chairman Ko Wen-je believes that political power in Taiwan should come with corresponding responsibilities. He criticized President Lai Ching-te for having power without accountability, highlighting the need for the president to report to the Legislative Yuan and answer queries from party caucuses. Ko Wen-je emphasized that administrative power, as evidenced by various cases in recent years, can be harmful, pointing out the importance of parliamentary reform as a safeguard against such harm. He expressed disappointment in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's lack of communication and coordination on legislative matters since the election and questioned their governance plans for the country. Ko Wen-je stressed the importance of open debates and discussions, citing examples from the past. He also discussed specific legislative issues such as the Hualien-East Taiwan Highway project and the East Coast Rail Line extension, emphasizing the need for practical and timely solutions to these infrastructure projects.
