Kaohsiung Pedestrian Lane Turns into Parking Lot, Public Opinion Sees Reform Pain Period by Lawmakers

Reported 8 months ago

To improve the pedestrian environment in Kaohsiung's commercial district, the city government established the longest pedestrian lane marking on Ruilong Road in Qianzhen District. Despite efforts to create a safe and friendly pedestrian environment by setting up the marked lane, the exclusive pedestrian space has turned into a controversial parking lot, leading to congestion and illegal parking issues. Lawmakers acknowledge the need to address these problems, with some suggesting the challenges lie in striking a balance between development and public welfare, urging local authorities to enforce regulations and educate the public on proper road use.
