A Keelung-based fishing boat, the 'Gang Fu Yang No. 266', suspected of entering Japanese waters for fishing, was intercepted by Japanese coast guard ships on July 5 and the captain, chief engineer, and 2 Taiwanese crew members were detained for investigation in Japan. After Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concerns to Japanese authorities, they agreed to a fine of 6.06 million yen, which upon payment will allow the boat to return to Taiwan. The incident involves allegations of violating local fishing regulations near Amami-Oshima Island, and the Taiwanese boat owner is currently preparing the payment.
