Keelung Fishing Boat Detained by Japan, Lu Li-Shih: Will New Taipei Legislator surnamed Su dare to Speak Up against Japan?

On the morning of July 6, 2024, the Keelung-based fishing boat 'Fuyang No. 266' was detained by the Japanese authorities near Amami Oshima Island after allegedly entering the nearby waters for operations. Lu Li-Shih, the captain, questioned if New Taipei City legislators surnamed Su would dare to hold a press conference and speak out against Japan when incidents like this happen to fishing boats. He criticized the lack of coordination among different Taiwanese governmental units in responding to the situation and raised concerns about the operational boundaries for Taiwanese fishermen. Lu emphasized the need for a unified national response strategy in such cases.
