Keelung Fishing Boat Interception by Japanese Fisheries Agency Vessel for Inspection; Coast Guard Administration Confirms Violation of Regulations

In the early hours of July 5th, 2024, Keelung-based fishing boat 'Fuyang No. 266' was intercepted by a Japanese Fisheries Agency vessel while operating in the high seas 230 nautical miles north of Diaoyutai. The captain and engineer of Taiwanese nationality cooperated with the investigation on the Japanese vessel, while 6 Indonesian crew members and the ship remained at sea. The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration confirmed that the fishing boat may have entered the vicinity of Amami Oshima in Japan's waters for fishing operations, leading to its interception for violating local fishing regulations. The case is being handled by the Fisheries Agency in coordination with Japanese authorities.
