On the morning of July 5, 2024, the Keelung fishing boat 'Fuyang No. 266' was suspected of illegally fishing in Japanese waters and was brought back for inspection. In the afternoon, the Japanese agreed to release the crew, with the condition that the boat owner must pay a fine of 6,000,000 Japanese yen (about 1.2 million New Taiwan dollars). The boat was inspected by Japanese coast guard in waters near Amami Oshima. After Taiwanese authorities intervened, Japanese agreed to release the crew upon payment of the fine. The boat is expected to return to Keelung after continuing its fishing activities at sea to cover the costs.
