On July 5, 2024, at 7:30 PM, Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang's 43,000 recall petitions were formally submitted for review, but reports emerged that they were returned, citing issues such as duplicate signatures, incorrect district division, and mix-up of original and duplicate copies. The Election Commission clarified the situation and requested the submitter to make corrections by the following Tuesday. This comes as part of a recall movement against Mayor Hsieh within less than 2 years of his term, with over 45,000 petitions submitted surpassing the required threshold of 37,920 signatures. The spokesperson for the recall group mentioned that discrepancies in the number of original and duplicate copies were the only issue leading to some petitions being brought back for amendment, denying claims of outright rejection.
