In response to the successful second stage of the recall petition against Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang, Xie reassured everyone on July 1 that he is focused on carrying out municipal work effectively and is prepared for any situation. The recall petition initiated by a civic group has surpassed the threshold, and the group estimates over 40,000 signatures have been collected, with plans to submit the case to the Central Election Commission on July 5 with confidence in advancing to the voting stage. Xie, during an event at the Keelung Transit Station in the morning, addressed media scrutiny over the recall effort, emphasizing his commitment to municipal tasks and preparation, while also mentioning plans to discuss recent developments at the KMT Central Party Headquarters later. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an expressed support for Xie in light of the recall campaign, highlighting the importance of not engaging in politically motivated recall efforts which could harm democracy.
