In March, a recall motion was initiated against Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang. The civic group announced on June 29 that they had gathered over 36,000 signatures, surpassing the required 37,792. Speculation about the by-election arose, with rumors of green camp preparing candidates like DPP Councilor Tong Ziwei and former legislator Cai Shiyin. Former legislator Gao Jiayu also expressed readiness for a potential candidacy. However, Shen Fuxiong doubted that the DPP would nominate her, pointing out her lack of political positions after losing her seat. Xie Guoliang remains focused on his mayoral duties amidst the recall vote. The vote requires over 76,979 approvals out of 307,913 eligible voters to pass. Xie has expressed gratitude for the public's concern and assured them of his preparations.
