The Ministry of Transportation and Keelung City Government jointly organized the '113th Keelung Port Large-scale Passenger Ship and Port Disaster Prevention and Rescue Drill' on July 4, 2024, marking the largest drill in years. The scenario involved a maritime accident where the 'New Taiwan-Horse Ferry' carrying 300 passengers caught fire off the coast of Keelung Port. A total of 47 central, local, and private agencies were involved, with the goal of strengthening the city's disaster response system. The drill included helicopter rescue operations, mass passenger evacuation, coordination with fishing vessels for assistance, handling of casualties and oil pollution, and the activation of emergency response mechanisms. The exercise aimed to test and integrate emergency response protocols to minimize loss of life and property in the event of a disaster, showcasing a comprehensive preparedness effort.
