The US Internal Revenue Service has settled a lawsuit with hedge fund manager Ken Griffin over a data breach where a contractor stole and leaked his tax data to ProPublica. The case is being dismissed as both parties reached an agreement to resolve the matter, with Griffin originally seeking financial damages but not requesting any during settlement discussions. The lawsuit accused the IRS of inadequate safeguards, with the breach resulting in private data of wealthy US taxpayers being revealed by ProPublica. The former IRS contractor responsible for the leak was sentenced to five years in prison.
