In Nairobi on June 26, 2024, after violent protests erupted against a tax bill affecting basic goods, Kenyan military and police fired on demonstrators entering Parliament. The Kenya Medical Association reported 23 dead and 30 injured. President Ruto, who aimed to solve the country's fiscal deficit through the bill, now plans to reconsider.
