Kenyan President William Ruto has withdrawn a $2.3 billion tax bill following deadly protests against the plan. The proposed new taxes aimed to improve state finances and access IMF financing, but led to public outcry due to rising food prices and high youth unemployment rates. Ruto's decision to scrap the bill came after at least 23 people died during the protests, which were primarily organized by young Kenyans and met by police force.
